road ahead

by manonton dalan

sweltering heat, unforgiving day
as i cruise long stretching valley
i saw a man with cardboard sign
says, ” i’m hungry, not feeling fine”

scraggly beard with old straw hat
worn pants, shirt with paint spots
i slowed down to give him food
but he needs more, i understood

i reach my wallet for a change
hoping it makes difference
i sense a face lit up with smile
i did something worthwhile

i heard words ” God bless you”
i felt so good, yes … i really do
that could happened to me
i’m scared with this economy
