VLOG mania
Most internet savvies now are bloggers too. Blogging has become a means of expression for most people, some for personal purpose, others for business. Yet, a new kind of blogging is starting to make itself known–VLOG or video blogging.
VLOG is a more visual way of blogging making use of videos. You can embed video or video links with supporting text, images or other metadata.
You do not need to be a film expert to do this. You simply have to have the gadgets and software and of course, an internet access.
Here’s how to VLOG:
- Make your video and save it as a file on your computer. You can use easily available software, such as Windows Movie Maker, QuickTime or iMovie (for Apple systems).
- Compress your video file. Movie Maker, iMovie, Avid Free DV and Final Cut Pro are among the programs you can use to do this.
- Set up a blog. Feedburner and Blogger.com are popular blog hosting sites.
- Make a screen capture of an image from your video to display in your blog.
- Get your actual video content published online. Internet Archive, BlipTV and OurMedia are free hosting services.
- Create your blog entry. Add the image and link to your video.
- Get an RSS feed with enclosures and publish your blog .[6]
The vlogosphere, which is how the VLOG environment is referred to, is a democratic arena where minimal inspections are done. This freedom in posting made way for the discovery of many artists, with Charice Pempengco as an example, whose video was seen by Ellen Degeneres in YouTube, pushing the latter to invite the young diva to her show.
I believe that VLOGging is a very powerful tool in communication, primarily because it deals with visuals and one cannot underestimate the power of visuals. It is more realistic and it appeals to the emotions easily as compared to text.
