You Left Before I Could
I miss you mom whenever I am happy.
I did run to you, sought your warm embrace,
and wasted your time with my crazy lines.
I miss you whenever I am sad or lonely,
recalling the times I rested my head
on your slim shoulders.
I miss you mom whenever I felt returning
all the love you gave and shared.
You know I would but you left before i could.
I miss you mom whenever I felt like saying
‘thank you’ for standing up beside me,
for the choices I made
that differed from yours, made you sigh,
and broke your little heart.
You know I would but you left before I could.

Thanks for the feedback, Nin. I am sure many can relate. When I shared this poem, I got tearful feedback from my officemates. They started calling up their moms.

joel, this poem is thoughtfully written and so appropriate for today- to celebrate mothers and in your situation, miss your mom’s absence. I just felt this sting in me and how much I do miss my mother who’s so many miles away now.
